
Gorilla trekking in Rwanda is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that allows you to encounter these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat. Volcanoes National Park, located in the northwestern part of Rwanda, is home to five of the eight volcanoes in the Virunga Mountains and is the primary location for gorilla trekking .
Before embarking on your trek, you’ll receive a briefing from park officials, covering safety guidelines, gorilla behavior protocols, and what to expect during the trek. You’ll be divided into small groups, each assigned a specific gorilla family to track.
Gorilla trekking usually starts early in the morning, and the duration can vary from 1 to 6 hours or more, depending on the location of the gorilla family. You’ll hike through dense vegetation and steep terrain, accompanied by expert guides and armed guards.
Once you locate the gorillas, you’ll spend a precious hour observing them in their natural habitat. You’ll have the opportunity to witness their behavior, including feeding, playing, and interacting with each other.
